The canvas on these rugs, which are 60% cotton have a layer of waterproofing treatment applied to the outer fabric. This does break down over time, especially once exposed to the elements. Re proofing (with a product like Sure Dry) is required to keep water at bay, generally after one seasons use, sometimes sooner.
