Kincade Lip Strap

 

 

The Kincade lip strap is a fine rolled leather lip strap designed for use with pelham bits. Lip straps were first used to prevent the curb chain from becoming lost, traditionally bits did not have a pinched curb hook to hold one side in place. With modern bitting, a double link curb chain is now sold with pelham bits as standard, and the curb hook is pinched on one side to prevent loss.
